Welcome To Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic School Kindergarten

  • Course: Kindergarten
  • Teacher: Mrs. Sherrilyn Winterble
  • Room Number: K
  • Time: 7:45am - 2:45pm

This year Kindergarten will be a year full of exploration and discovery through whole group, small group and independent academic work and play. We will learn to be great friends and classmates by practicing “The Friar Way” expectations. As well we will build upon our faith through pray and liturgical celebration.Throughout the year students come to know Jesus as their friend and are taught about God's gifts and promises as they learn about the Bible.  Each Friday Kindergarten joins the rest of the school to attend Mass.

As Kindergarten students learn about Jesus they also learn about being a friend to each other and students in different grades.  One of Kindergarten’s favorite part of the week is when they walk to Mass with their buddies in 8th grade. They also learn day to day friendship skills through our Harmony program which helps our students identify, practice and implement concepts which support their relationships with their peers through caring about each other.

St. Francis of Assisi School provides a strong academic curriculum based on the Common Core State Standards along with standards set by the Archdiocese of San Diego. Our individualized Kindergarten program is designed for incoming students with varied academic and developmental levels. Our Language Arts program uses the reading and Writing workshop model which allows children to learn to read and write at their own pace.  Along with Reading and Writing Workshop we also provide an extensive phonics program to learn language and reading.  Kindergarten follows the Go Math! Series which promotes math vocabulary and an understanding of computation and number sense.  Our social science program provides investigation and discovery into the world around our Kindergarten students.  All these core subjects are supported through technology including IPads and an interactive classroom board.

Kindergarten participates in several local field trips including the flower fields, nature centers and theater performances of classic literature. Each field trip enhances our academic curriculum.  Kindergarten students also participate weekly in Enrichment classes with art, music, P.E. and library all taught by designated enrichment teachers. St. Francis of Assisi Kindergarten is a full day program and goes from 7:45am until 2:45pm each week day with the exception of Wednesday which is a shortened day.

About Our Teacher

Teacher's Name: Mrs. Sherrilyn Winterble

My name is Mrs. Winterble and this is my first year here at St. Francis of Assisi. I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to continue my teaching career here at St. Francis of Assisi. Before moving to Carlsbad I was at another Catholic School, St. John Eudes, in Chatsworth California where I taught fourth grade. This will be my seventeenth year working in a classroom and my fourteenth year as a lead teacher. I have taught in every grade level from TK through Fourth Grade and am especially excited to be back teaching in Kindergarten again. I hold a clear California multi-subject credential, an undergraduate degree in Child Development and a masters in Elementary Reading and Literature. Also I am a trained Catechist and very much look forward to sharing the love of Christ with our Kindergartners.
